California Pizza Kitchen (CPK), is one of my favourite places to chow down in KLCC, not just for the view but food, naturally. Can’t say I have tried everything on their extensive menu, and not everything that I have tasted went down well with me, but those dishes that have, have made me come back for more.
If you love pizzas, this is a place you simply need to check out. But even if pizzas aren’t your thing, you can still opt for their pasta or sandwiches.
To kick things off, there is a wide selection of starters, ranging from appetizers, soups and salads. For a more balanced meal, salads are recommended.
Miso Salad comes with shredded Napa cabbage, fresh avocado, edamame, crispy wantons and rice noodles, all tossed in CPK’s unique Miso Dressing. If you’re game to try something different, this is a deliciously good bet.
Alternatively, you can go with the more traditional Mediterranean Salad. A chilled salad of cucumbers, fresh tomatoes and Greek olives tossed with crisp Romaine leaves and lemon-herb vinaigrette, served on a bed of hummus and topped with Feta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and CPK’s homemade Tzatziki sauce. I’m not one for salads but if I had to pick one, this would be it, especially when taken with pita bread.
For a main course, pasta-lovers can pick from a variety of CPK’s specialties that include Chicken Piccata* (a thinly pounded chicken breast sautéed in creamy lemon-caper sauce, served with spaghettini pasta), Pan-Sauteed Salmon* (Atlantic salmon lightly seasoned and pan-sauteed, accompanied with asparagus and spaghettini in a creamy lemon-caper sauce) and Chicken Marsala* (pounded chicken breast sautéed with fresh mushrooms and grilled asparagus in a marsala wine sauce, served with linguini pasta).
But if it’s pizza you’re hankering for, I recommend the Italian Tomato & Basil. Made from imported Italian tomatoes, Mozzarella cheese and CPK’s own tomato sauce topped with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese, it is great not just for vegetarians – who now have something additional to choose from aside from Vegetarian with Eggplant, Five-Cheese & Fresh Tomato, Traditional Cheese and Wild Mushroom – but meat-lovers as well.
As its name suggests, The Works has a little bit of everything in it – sweet Italian chicken and beef sausage, beef pepperoni, sautéed mushrooms, Mozzarella cheese. Sicilian is a spicy Marinara sauce with sweet Italian beef and chicken sausage, spicy turkey salami, julienne beef salami, Fontina, Mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
And if there is still room for dessert, there is quite a list to choose from. Red Velvet Cake (three layers of moist red velvet cake frosted with vanilla bean cream cheese and white chocolate curls), Chocolate Banana Royale Cake (moist chocolate cake layered with banana cream and topped with chocolate mousse, served with CPK’s triple-thick hot fudge and banana cream sauce), Chocolate Souffle Cake (a Belgian chocolate soufflé cake served warm with CPK’s triple-thick hot fudge on vanilla bean sauce), Tiramisu*, Key Lime Pie, Hot Fudge Brownie and Hot Fudge/Caramel Sundae.
